By now, you should be familiar with the Crispy Rendang saga. Judges of MasterChef UK, John Torode and Gregg Wallace were grilled by netizens over their comments of Malaysia-born contestant Zaleha Kadir Olpin’s dish.
The judges’ comments caused quite a stir on social media, sparking off a debate in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
While many find serving a plate of “crispy Rendang” sounds as impossible as it is ridiculous, a fast food chain actually tried to create crispy Rendang long before #RendangGate.
In 2017, KFC had launched a Rendang Rice Bucket in Singapore for a period of time. The meal consisted of rice with popcorn chicken (fried boneless chicken), glazed with rendang sauce.

Although the item has been taken off the menu, a Facebook post regarding the dish was revived by netizens.

In response to comments, KFC replied with an equally cheeky response:

It seems like the only ones who had the privilege of trying out “crispy Rendang” are Singaporeans. Perhaps it’s time to bring it back on KFC SG’s menu?
